The Tephra Trapwire Carabiner is safer, stronger, and noticeably lighter than other belay carabiners. The carabiner’s narrow, low profile nose and keylock design allow for smooth, snag-free connections to belay loops, rappel devices, webbing, and gear loops. The exclusive Trapwire keeper at the bottom of the carabiner helps maintain proper orientation while belaying and rappelling; it also serves as the carabiner’s main spring. Unlike most belay carabiners with an orientation-assist bar across the frame, the Tephra Trapwire permits clean and simple racking of a belay device while not in use.
Named for the Greek word for erupted elements from a volcano, the Tephra Trapwire features a unique hot-forged frame that makes it one of the strongest belay carabiners, with a major axis strength of 27kN and a burly gate open strength of 10kN. The carabiner also meets applicable European Community Directives (CE) and is UL tested and NFPA certified for use by firefighters and fire rescuers.
