MSA's exclusive Defender Visor— Never lose or misplace your eye protection again. There’s no other NFPA compliant helmet eyewear as compact or as convenient. The MSA Defender Visor actually retracts into the helmet’s shell where it stays clean and instantly ready to deploy.

Cairns’ unique design allows the visor to be raised and lowered in an instant, even with gloved hands. And don't be concerned about it slipping; the Defender stays securely stowed until YOU pull it down.

It’s optically correct lens eliminates peripheral distortion. Its sleek, close-fitting profile leaves nothing sticking out or hanging off the helmet to get caught on something in zero-visibility conditions or throw the helmet off balance.

And maintenance is simple. The visor can be quickly disconnected from the helmet without tools, allowing fast lens changes, even during field use.  Prepare for maximum efficiency.

4”  Tuffshield® Visor. Although it costs you no more than the clear and smoke visor options, we at believe the Tuffshield visor offers distinct advantages. We supply it as the standard equipment visor on all Cairns Traditional and Deluxe Configuration helmets for some very good reasons:  Tuffshield is significantly more heat resistant. The Tuffshield Defender visor is heat-resistant up to 500° F. Other visor materials will start to melt at about 345° Tuffshield is a heavier grade material with more impact resistance.

As the name implies, it’s just tougher. The slight yellowish tint helps you see better, day or night. Like a pair of amber shooting glasses, they filter out harsh wavelengths and glare, improving contrast and revealing more detail under all lighting conditions—including looking at flames.  4” amber Tuffshield visor is compliant with NFPA 1971, 2013 edition. All visors meet ANSI Z87.1+ impact requirements.

4" Leather Fronts are sold separately.

""Everything but the paint.""

This helmet is so light I had to check my head twice to make sure it was on during a call. I love not having a brim getting my way. The paint however is way too thin, and the slightest scratch is showing white through after only a few days of use.

Glad I bought it

I am a Wildland Firefighter and this helmet is perfect for that job especially with the flip down eye protection. I gives much more protection then the normal construction type helmets we use.

"Does this helmet meet NFPA like the 660's?"

"What is the helmet__s actual weight with Defender shield?"

weigh's approx 42 Oz

"Can you put the defender impact cap from a 1010 in a HP3?"

Tyler, sorry it took so long to reply back to you, we sent your question to MSA/Cairns for their input, this was their answer; HP3 is a helmet that should be sent in to our factory to have it upgraded to a Defender. Unlike the other helmets, it's a bit more difficult (not user-friendly) so we do that in the factory. They recommend that if you want to upgrade your helmet it should be done at their factory.

"does this helmet meet NFPA 1983 for technical rescue"

Danny, you have 4 choices of eye protection to choose from, 3 of them are NFPA, and 1 is not NFPA just OSHA For Structural Firefighting & USAR - Certified to NFPA 1971 & 1951, we think USAR covers the tech rescue section and that's NFPA 1951 not 1983. The 1983 standard covers rope and etc What does NFPA 1983 address? Criteria cover the design, performance, testing, and certification of new life safety rope, escape rope, water rescue throwlines, life safety harnesses, belts, manufacturer-supplied eye terminations, moderate elongation laid life safety rope, belay devices, and auxiliary equipment for emergency services personnel.

"Does this product meet or exceed CSA Z94.1-2005 (R 2013) for type 2 class E helmets and ANSI Z89.1-2009 for Type II safety helmets"
