When handcuff training, students require repeated practice in order to master basic skills. ASP's Red Training Handcuffs dramatically increase the number of possible training sequences to provide students with the necessary skills they need to effectively use handcuffs. Identical to their operational counterparts apart from their color, these Training Handcuffs can be applied exactly as they are on the street for more realistic simulations. These cuffs are applied using the Rock & Lock handcuffing procedure and may be removed using the Rotary Release technique. As ASP's training restraint pawls are designed to disengage when subjected to continuous back pressure, handcuffed students need only to roll their wrists to release the cuffs. For more difficult restraint training, the Training Handcuffs can be double locked, thus requiring a release key to open and take off the handcuffs. ASP's Red Training Handcuffs are effective tools that allow law enforcement and security officers to practice their handcuffing skills in realistic, progressively more difficult simulations.
Using ASP's Training Restraints
During ASP Handcuff Training, students initially apply restraints to Training Batons and remove the cuffs by sliding them off. Next, students apply restraints to other trainees, having the subject remove the cuffs by rotating their wrists. Finally, hard cuffs are applied and double locked. Double and single locks are released with a key that is turned in the direction of the bow. This progressive training system maximizes restraint application while allowing officers to practice all components of the handcuff skill set.
