With a slim profile, a better blade, and Benchmade’s Nitrous™ Assist, the 890 Torrent Folding Knife offers style, strength, and reliable deployment when you need it most.

Deceptively slender and simple, this good-looking knife puts you firmly in control in a flash. Another innovative, stylish design by Ken Steigerwalt. This slim, mid-size Torrent sports an array of features that make it a powerful companion for everyday carry or special occasions. But it’s Steigerwalt’s innovative Nitrous™ Assist that makes it so much more than a pretty blade. Unlike assisted openers with hairspring triggers, the powerful mechanism hidden inside this deceptive beauty gives you full control until you command it to spring into action. Start deploying the blade like you would any quality one-hand opening folder, moving the stud with your thumb to begin rotating the blade. It opens normally, with you in control of the speed, until it reaches a 30-degree angle—and you unleash the Torrent. Then hidden torsion arms take over to snap the blade into a fully open and locked position, ready to handle the most challenging tasks (or just peel an orange) until you move the liner lock aside to release it. The tough, 3.6” modified drop-point blade is crafted from premium-grade American made 154CM stainless steel to deliver tough, dependable, all-around performance and great corrosion resistance. The extremely durable G10 scale handles are textured and sculpted for a secure, comfortable grip. Like all Benchmade Blue Class knives, the Torrent was designed and built for the individual who appreciates the difference that a high-quality cutting tool can make. These premium quality US-made products represent the heart of everything that is Benchmade. Choose Plain Edge or partially serrated ComboEdge®.

BENCHMADE FEATURES EXPLAINED:

154CM: An American made premium grade stainless steel originally developed for tough industrial applications. Known for its best all-around qualities, it offers great corrosion resistance with good toughness and edge quality. HRC 58-60.

DROP-POINT BLADE: A slow convex-curved drop in the point lowers the point for control but adds strength to the tip. Usually coupled with plenty of belly for slicing, this format is often used for hunting knives. It is also a fantastic all-around blade format for tactical and utility applications. This blade shape can be found on a wide array of knives. It is available here with either a plain or partially serrated ComboEdge®.

G10 SCALE HANDLE: An extremely durable makeup of layers of fiberglass soaked in resin, then highly compressed and baked. Impervious to moisture or liquid and physically stable under climate change. Most commonly black, but available in various colors, too.

NITROUS™ Assist: A patented Benchmade exclusive, the Nitrous boosts the blade with ease and exceptional control. As the blade is closed the two torsion arms running the length of the handle liners are secured in place and tensioned against the blade tang. As, the user rotates the blade open to a 30-degree angle, the torsion arms take over and continue the blade opening process on its own. The huge advantage over other similar concepts is that the blade must be rotated open beyond a 30-degree angle, giving the user significantly more control.

MODIFIED LOCKING-LINER: Integrated into the Nitrous™ Assist mechanism, as shown above. The basic principle is an integral locking bar within the knife liner being stress bent, enabling it to spring into position behind the rear tang of the blade when the blade is opened. The locking bar wedges against the rear of the blade, locking it open until you physically push it clear and close the blade. With little practice, the process of opening and closing the blade can be done single-handed (locking-liners are made either right or left hand specific). And with a Benchmade modified locking-liner you get a patented feature, which helps to enhance the lock function. The function success and function failure of a locking liner depends greatly on how well it is made and also the quality of the materials used. With Benchmade, you get the best of both, and we offer it in a variety of knives.
